MIAMI // Travel & Learn

Traveling is like flirting with life. It’s like saying I would stay forever and love you, but i have to go.

Für mich bedeutet Reisen auch immer neues zu lernen, mich weiterzubilden. Egal ob es neue Orte, neue Menschen, neue Kulturen oder eine neue Sprache ist.
Die letzte Reise ist nun leider auch schon wieder ein paar Wochen her, doch der Grund meiner Reise war dieses Mal eine Sprachreise zusammen mit EF Austria.

For me, travelling always means learning new things and educating myself further. No matter if it is new places, new people, new cultures or a new language.
The last trip was a few weeks ago, but the reason for my trip this time was a language trip together with EF Austria.

Miami

Miami war nun meine 2. Stadt, die ich in Amerika bereisen durfte. Es war auch einer der schönsten Trips die ich bisher hatte. Ich war mit einer meiner besten Freundinnen unterwegs, wir hatten super viel Spaß, konnten am Strand entspannen und einfach mal „nichts“ tun, waren lecker essen, hatten jede Menge Spaß, waren feiern, waren auf den Bahamas, haben jede Menge neuer Menschen kennen gelernt,.. und und und.

Nichtsdestotrotz ist Miami vom „Vibe“ her nicht meine liebste Stadt, sie ist einfach crazy. Gefühlt hat sich jedes Klischee, dass man von hier kennt bestätig, was ich jetzt nicht schlecht finde. Miami ist eben Miami 🙂 . Könnte ich mich entscheiden, würde ich aber definitiv Los Angeles bevorzugen. Falls ihr Lust habt könnt ihr auch den Post dazu HIER lesen.

Miami was my second city to travel in the USA. It was also one of the most beautiful trips I had so far. I was there with one of my best friends, we had a lot of fun, could relax on the beach and just do „nothing“, had delicious food, had a lot of fun, went partying, were in the Bahamas, met a lot of new people,… and and and and.

Nevertheless, Miami isn’t my favourite city in terms of „vibe“, it’s just crazy. Every cliché that you know about Miami, has felt confirmed, which I don’t find bad now. Miami is Miami 🙂 . EF (Education First) Sprachreisen

Alle Grundsätzlichen Infos zu EF Sprachreisen findet ihr HIER. Ich habe mich für Miami entschieden, in erster Linie, weil ich mein Englisch verbessern wollte (und wo lernt man eine Sprache besser als dort wo sie gesprochen wird?), andererseits weil ich Miami immer schon mal gerne sehen wollte. Palmen, warmes Wetter, Strand,.. wer würde da nicht mal gerne hin 😉

All general information about EF language travel can be found HERE. I chose Miami primarily because I wanted to improve my English (and where can you learn a language better than where it is spoken?), but also because I always wanted to see Miami. Palm trees, warm weather, beaches,… who wouldn’t like to go there 😉

Wie läuft die Sprachreise so ab?

Also ihr könnt euch das ganze so Vorstellen, ihr geht kurz und knapp gesagt in die Schule. Insgesamt hatte ich ca. 15 Wochen-classes wobei 1 Einheit 1 Stunde und 20Minuten dauerte. Es gab verschiedene Fächer, in einem ging es viel um Kommunikation und Local Events (sprich Politik), dann gab es bei mir noch ein Unterrichtsfach wo wir an Projekten gearbeitet haben und diese am Ende der Woche vorgestellt haben und natürlich gab es auch ein bisschen Frontalunterricht mit Grammatik und Vokabeln 🙂

How does the language trip work?

So you can imagine it like this, you go to school. In total I had about 15 lessons per week, where 1 lesson lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes. There were different subjects, one was about communication and local events (politics), then there was another subject where we worked on projects and presented them at the end of the week and of course there was also some frontal teaching with grammar and vocabulary 🙂

Where To Eat

Wir hatten das Essen eigentlich bei der Schule inkludiert, also waren wir nicht allzuoft auswärts essen ( ist auch ehrlich gesagt alles andere als billig). Aber hier alle Restaurants/Cafés die mir empfohlen worden sind 🙂

We actually had the food at school, so we weren’t eating out too often, (it is anything but cheap to be honest). But here are all the restaurants/cafés that have been recommended to me 🙂

What we did & Tipps

Sprachschule: naja der Hauptgrund für was wir dort waren, war natürlich die Sprachreise, sprich der Unterricht, natürlich waren das immer nur ein paar Einheiten pro Tag 🙂
Wynwood : einer der hipsten Bezirke in Miami, muss man einfach dort gewesen sein um zu Shoppen, Kaffee zu trinken, sich die Wynwood Walls anschauen, abends eine Bar zu besuchen und und und 🙂
Fahrrad ausborgen: Wir haben uns dazu entschieden uns ein Citybike zu holen, hier würde ich empfehlen dies für den 1 Monats Tarif zu nehmen, kommt am billigsten und ist einfach super super praktisch. Wir waren fast nur per Fahrrad unterwegs ( waren aber auch meiste Zeit nur in Miami Beach)
Trolleys : sind so kleine blaue Busse, mit denen man Gratis Fahren kann, jedoch kommen die immer nur alle 15-30min
Bahamas: Wenn wir schonmal so nahe an den Bahamas sind, mussten wir einfach einen Kurztrip machen. Also haben wir beschlossen 1 Wochenende auf die Bahamas zu fahren. Dies konnte man von EF aus buchen ( direkt in der Schule, also man konnte sich spontan dafür entscheiden). Die Fähre braucht ca 3,5h von Miami auf die Bahamas, jedoch mussten wir davor noch 1h von unserer Unterkunft zum Hafen fahren. Auf den Bahamas findet eine kurze Einreise statt und dann brauchten wir nochmal ca. 30min zu unserem Hotel. Generell haben wir das Wochenende nur am Strand und mit essen verbracht und es war so so so so schön, kann es euch nur empfehlen 🙂
Clubbing: Rockwell, Liv, E11even, STORY, Mokaii
Downtown: am besten besucht ihr in Downtown eine Rooftop Bar und genießt einfach ein paar teure drinks bei einem der schönsten Ausblicke 😉 wir waren leider nur in Miami Beach in einer Rooftop Bar (1 hotel)

Language School: well, the main reason for our trip, was of course the language trip, that means classes, of course there were always only a few lessons per day 🙂
Wynwood: one of the hippest districts in Miami, you just have to be there to shop, drink coffee, visit the Wynwood Walls, visit a bar in the evening and and and and 🙂
Borrow a bike: We decided to get a city bike, here I would recommend to take this for the 1 month rate, comes cheapest and is just super, super practical. We were almost only on the road by bike (but most of the time we were only in Miami Beach).
Trolleys: are small blue busses that you can take for free, but they come only every 15-30min.
Bahamas: Since we were so close to the Bahamas, we just had to make a short trip. So we decided to go to the Bahamas for one weekend. You could book this from EF (directly at the school, so you could decide spontaneously). The ferry needs about 3.5h from Miami to the Bahamas, but before that we had to drive 1h from our accommodation to the port. On the Bahamas we had to go through a short immigration process and then we needed again approx. 30min to our hotel. Generally we have spent the weekend only on the beach and with food and it was so so beautiful, can only recommend it to you 🙂
Clubbing: Rockwell, Liv, E11even, STORY, Mokaii
Downtown: It’s best to visit a Rooftop Bar in Downtown and just enjoy some expensive drinks at one of the most beautiful views 😉 We were unfortunately only in Miami Beach in a Rooftop Bar
